One might ask, "Why is there a page on government on a Ranch website?" The short answer is that the great freedom and beauty we enjoy here at the Ranch would not be possible were it not for the blessings of a self determinant society that was left to us by our forefathers. And while I am in awe of the marvelous workings of our government that has kept us a self determinant people these past couple hundred years, I worry, based on what I hear from the pundits and in my conversations with fellow Americans, that this marvelous machine the founders of our country created continues to operate even though there are no engineers who know how to run it and no mechanics who know how to fix it. I think all the people in washington and most of us who voted for them skipped the eigth grade civics course that should have taught us the workings of our Constitution so that we could be proper stewards of the blessings handed down to us. I wrote this for my children's education and make no pretense to it being a scholarly work, hence the lack of attribution. Likewise I doubt greatly that any of this is original thought. I have had many great teachers over the years and suppose that most if not all that I write here I gleaned at the feet or in the books of great thinkers. If you find some use in it I am happy.
